Jason Sheer is a hands-on businessman in the truest sense.

"I've got the hammer in my hand, and we are going at it," the founder and co-owner of the Tin Roof said Tuesday in a telephone interview.

Sheer was working at South Limestone and Maxwell streets where the live-music restaurant chain is about to open its newest location, probably in February.

"It always depends on the city and when we can get our liquor license," he said.

"Norman" might have been Lexington's earliest winter casualty.

During the city's first significant snowstorm a couple of weeks ago, a car jumped the curb in front of 203 South Limestone "and just hit him and killed him stone dead," says Liza Hendley Betz . "Everybody was just heart-broken."

You see, Norman is the 3-foot-tall wooden leprechaun that had stood in front of Failte, The Irish Import Shop , since Hendley Betz opened the imported-products business in 2001.

Norman is one-of-a-kind, created especially for Failte, which means "welcome" in Gaelic, the native language of Ireland. Hendley Betz is Irish, having emigrated from Dublin in 1996.

Imagine not having to leave your seat and stand in line to get food and drink during University of Kentucky games at Rupp Arena.

The Cats always make a big play when your back is turned and if you wait for halftime, the crowds are huge.

Collin Wallace and David Ward have got you covered.

They are co-founders of FanGo , a food-delivery service that's now available in parts of Rupp Arena.

"Iraq is open for business," says Maurey Bond.

He should know. He's been there since February.

The 31-year-old Lexington native and University of Kentucky graduate is general manager of the Iraqi Airways International Business Center near the Baghdad International Airport.

The center is in an economic zone that also has a convention center, a 100-room hotel, an eight-story office building and other facilities.

It's a dream come true, especially for college students.

Think about it: Hot cookies and brownies and cold milk delivered to your door or dorm in the evening or early morning.

Insomnia Cookies has arrived in Lexington, and anyone within a three-mile radius of the University of Kentucky can have this dream come true by making a phone call or visiting the company's Web site.

For most of us, Insomnia Cookies is a new concept. It doesn't rely on brick and mortar or a fixed address. Its bakeries at about 18 college campuses are on wheels trucks with "a full kitchen" in the back, says Mike Bickers , the company's Lexington general manager.

Thanks to his friend Bill Ambrose , Barry McNees is now the proud owner of a fifth of 100 proof James E. Pepper Bourbon that came out of the barrel in 1945.

A 63-year-old bourbon calls for a very special occasion, and McNees, who is developing the $190 million Distillery District arts and entertainment area in Lexington, is patiently waiting for one.

Please note that this bottle of Pepper's finest is so old it has a cork, not a screw top.

"I lucked into finding that bottle on eBay ." said Ambrose, who was president of Lexington Brewing Co.

You know how it goes. You're on a business trip. Your laundry starts piling up. You stuff it in one of those hotel laundry bags and drop it in the hall outside your room. A day or two later, your clothing comes back cleaned and pressed.

The one thing you usually don't do is to check the price list on the laundry bag. You just want to get the jelly off your favorite shirt.

John Long , chairman of the World Games 2010 Foundation , was in Hong Kong recently to attend the equestrian competitions that were part of the Beijing Olympics.

He stuffed a couple of pairs of slacks, a couple shirts and a couple of this and that into a hotel cleaning bag. It came back nicely cleaned and pressed -- with a bill for "190 American dollars," Long told the foundation's board on Thursday.
